Sergio Hiram Cantú de León President

Sergio grew up in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Brownsville with a dual degree in Physics and Mathematics. He is pursuing a PhD in the Vuletic group in the Center for ultra cold atoms. His research focuses in using ultra cold atoms to study nonlinear quantum optics at the single-photon level.

Jose Alberto is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering working in the modeling and optimization of microbial communities. In particular, he is working of designing an optimal algae cultivation process for biofuels production. He enjoys outdoors activities such as skiing, hiking, and sailing. He is originally from Saltillo.

Mariana works in the Alm Lab and she studies things you may consider gross -stool and sewage!- to learn about the human microbiome and its relationship to health. She holds a BSc in Genomics (UNAM) and a MSc in Biotechnology (Wageningen). Besides research, Mariana enjoys reading, meeting new people, exploring Boston and sleeping! She is originally from Mexico City and grew up in San Luis Potosi.

She studied Chemical Engineering and then worked for two years as a research scientist in a Cambridge-area start-up. In her spare time, Luly enjoys reading, cycling, baking, hiking and dancing. She is originally from Guadalajara.

Victor Hernandez-Gordillo

Victor is originally from Chiapas. He holds a B.Sc. in Biotechnology (UNACH), a MSc. in Plant Pathology (OSU) and a PhD in Biology (Purdue University). His research is supported by DARPA and consists of “organs on a chip” for the analysis of drug toxicity and efficacy. Victor enjoys bringing together the Mexican community, watching science fiction and dancing.

Jorge Valdez
